"Science for Religion Reporters" Award Application

Contest Rules

The contest period is September 1, 2017 through October 15, 2017. All entries must be submitted online on or before midnight (PST) October 15, 2017. Entries must have been originally published, broadcast or posted online during the previous two years - September 15, 2014 - September 15, 2016. 2015 award winners are not eligible to apply for a 2016 award.

The awards are open to religion reporters doing work for independent news organizations around the world, who are residing and located in a jurisdiction where the contest is lawful to enter.

Applicants must answer three short essay questions and submit three work samples and a letter of recommendation.

Applicants agree to attend the 2018 AAAS Annual Meeting to receive their $4000 award.

Applicants are responsible to arrange and pay for their own travel to the 2018 AAAS Annual Meeting.

The following are not eligible for the AAAS Science for Religion Reporters Awards:

  • Items published originally in AAAS or The John Templeton Foundation publications or produced by AAAS or the John Templeton Foundation.

  • Items by employees, and their immediate family members, of AAAS or The John Templeton Foundation.
